The happiest little snow pup! It’s still an icy mess here in our part of the Willamette Valley. And while I prefer to spend my snow days inside, he is hell-bent that we’re spending every possible second outside, adventuring in the freezing temperatures. ❄️☃️

In 2014, @kateinthemeadow and I graduated from the University of Oregon. It was the start of a decade-long career in public relations, working with major brands like Sony and Microsoft and eventually launching my own boutique communications agency.

Back then, I never would have envisioned myself back on campus as a student nurse, dressed in scrubs and a stethoscope around my neck.

But in 2024, here we are.

It's hard to describe the emotions that have come bubbling up this week: Excitement, gratitude, overwhelm, and anxiety, just to name a few. But I'm beyond thankful for the love and support I have through it all— @brucethemoose, @krystina.galathynius, @mallorygisler, @janabitton (and the entire @oregoncenterfornursing crew), and way too many other people who glitchy Instagram won’t let me tag right now.

2024, you're going to be an adventure indeed.

This year, I’m not bothering with #NewYearResolu

This year, I’m not bothering with #NewYearResolutions… because the only thing I can come up with is “Survive nursing school.” Instead, 2024 is the year I am drawing lines around my personal space and time.

It’s the year I am protecting my peace and preserving my capacity.

It’s the year I am prioritizing the things that truly matter and not spreading myself too thin.

It’s the year I am putting aside people-pleasing tendencies and saying no to feeling guilty for saying “no.”

It’s the year I am accepting that prioritizing myself is empowering rather than selfish failure.

When it comes time to do something big for yourself, the people who love you will still be there on the other side.

They will understand if you don’t always text back right away or turn down the offer to go out for drinks on a Saturday night. They understand that “busy” has a whole new meaning, and more importantly, they support you in choosing rest over socializing in your free moments.

This is your reminder (and mine) that it is OK to put yourself first for once. ♥️
